Another ‘Quality’ Performance from Bellafina in SA Oaks

STALLIONS

Despite a less-than-perfect trip, the extremely talented Bellafina kept her unblemished sophomore season intact Saturday while setting up her date with redemption in next month’s GI Kentucky Oaks. Second at 1-2 when unveiled at Los Alamitos last July 4, the pricey Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream buy ran away with the GII Sorrento S., GI Del Mar Debutante S. and GI Chandelier S. before a disappointing fourth as the favorite in the GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies under the Twin Spires Nov. 2.

CONCRETE ROSE TAKES CONTROL IN FLORIDA OAKS

STALLIONS

Ashbrook Farm and BBN Racing's Concrete Rose emerged victorious in her sophomore debut March 9 at Tampa Bay Downs, earning the second graded score of her career in the $200,000 Florida Oaks (G3T).

"This was a big one to get out from under her, to come off a layoff and carrying top weight (of 123 pounds)," said trainer Rusty Arnold. "I was worried she was a little bit hyper in the paddock, which she's never been, but she had never shipped, so I think we can handle that when we get back to Keeneland. This was a quality bunch."

BELLAFINA HOLDS OFF ENAYA ALRABB IN LAS VIRGENES

STALLIONS

It wasn't a romp, geared down and cruising to the wire like she's done before, but Kaleem Shah's Bellafina was still impressive in a very different way Feb. 9 in the $200,000 Las Virgenes Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park.

Unlike her four previous graded wins, where she's mostly had things her own way, the Simon Callaghan-trained Quality Road filly had multiple factors working against her in the one-mile test.
