STRIKE CHARMER: HIP 212 KEENOV

Tue, 10/30/2018 - 13:08

Three times is the charm, as Strike Charmer is a three-time graded stakes winner. She is by Smart Strike – a twice Leading Sire and outstanding broodmare sire – out of a stakes winning and graded placed Storm Cat mare, and is offered in foal to Tapit.

A formidable performer on the turf, Strike Charmer is one of only three horses to defeat champion Lady Eli prior to that magnificent performer’s injury in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1). Strike Charmer achieved that feat in the Ballston Spa Stakes (G2), outfinishing Lady Eli to score in near course-record time. The beaten field included not only Lady Eli, but also another stellar turf mare in Miss Temple City – twice a grade one winner over males – as well as others graded winners Sentiero Italia and Onus. In doing so, she earned a 102 Beyer Speedfigure, and an Equibase figure of 123.

Strike Charmer’s other graded stakes triumphs came in the Cardinal Handicap (G2) and Beaugay Stakes (G3). In the Cardinal Handicap, she had two lengths to spare over a 16 horse field that also included graded winners I’m Already Sexy, Nellie Cashman, Northern Passion and stakes winners Antonia Autumn, Honey Lake and Street of Gold. The Beaugay Stakes saw Strike Charmer run another triple digit Beyer as she prevailed by 2¼ lengths from a field that included grade one winner Ball Dancer, and graded winners My Miss Sophia, and Recepta. Strike Charmer earned additional black-type with seconds in the Plenty of Grace Stakes and Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes, and third in the Mint Julep Handicap (G3).

Strike Charmer is a daughter of Smart Strike. A record-breaking two-time Leading Sire, Smart Strike has been represented by no less than ten champions in North America, including Eclipse Award winners Curlin – now an outstanding sire – Lookin At Lucky, English Channel and My Miss Aurelia. Smart Strike is also an exceptional broodmare sire with his daughters having produced 95 stakes winners,37 graded stakes winners, and eight grade one winners, including Kentucky Derby (G1) captor Mine That Bird; Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) scorer Shared Account; as well as Union Strike, Dullahan, Strong Return, First Dude, Peace and War and Touch of Pink.

Cat Charmer, the dam of Strike Charmer, is a stakes winning and graded stakes placed daughter of Storm Cat. She is dam, not only of Strike Charmer, but the multiple graded stakes placed Candy Ride filly, Sweet Dreams. She is also dam of a 2017 filly by Curlin, a three-quarters sister to Strike Charmer, a 2018 filly by Union Rags, and has been bred to Malibu Moon.

Cat Charmer is a half-sister to a very accomplished runner in Impeachment, who earned places in both the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1). Misconduct, the dam of Cat Charmer, is also dam of Champion Sprinter Gold Beauty, the dam of Dayjur, Champion Sprinter in Europe, and Horse of the Year in England and France. Gold Beauty is also dam of grade one winner Maplejinsky and granddam Champion Older Mare Sky Beauty. Misconduct is also half-sister to graded scorer The Prime Minister, and stakes winners Majestic Venture, Stormy Beauty and Miraloma, and the 45 stakes winners descending from Misconduct’s dam, stakes winner Stick to Beauty, are grade one winners Tale of Ekati, Question, Pine Island, Point of Entry, Pleasant Home and Violence.

For what will be her first living foal, Strike Charmer is bred to Tapit, a record-breaking three-time Leading Sire who has been dominant stallion of his era. This gives the successful cross of Pulpit line stallions with Smart Strike mares that is TrueNicks rated A+.
