Tue, 10/30/2018 - 13:06
My Miss Sophia has absolutely everything one could want in a young broodmare prospect. By a standout sire, who has become an exceptional broodmare sire, she has top-drawer form on both dirt and turf, and carrying a foal by one of the world’s sought most sought-after sires, that is bred on an extremely successful cross.
My Miss Sophia was quick to make an impression as a runner. An 11 lengths winner of a Gulfstream Park maiden special weight event, she took the Gazelle Stakes (G2) by 7¼ lengths, over grade one winner Got Lucky, on only her third start. That was followed by an excellent second to Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Untapable in the Kentucky Oaks (G1), with grade one winner Unbridled Forever six lengths back in arrears, with champion Ria Anotonia, Got Lucky, other grade one winners Rosalind and Fashion Plate, graded winners Sugar Shock, Aurelia’s Belle and Kiss Moon further in arrears.
Switching to the turf, My Miss Sophia took a Belmont Park allowance event by 4 ½ lengths, and took third in the Ballston Spa Stakes (G2), beaten just a head and ¾ length by the formidable duo of Dacita and Tepin, and third in the First Lady Stakes. As a measure of her class and ability, we can note that My Miss Sophia earned Beyer figures of 100 on dirt and 102 on turf.
My Miss Sophia is a daughter of Unbridled’s Song, who is not only the sire of such as Arrogate, Will Take Charge, Forever Unbridled, Zensational, Midshipman, Liam’s Map, Unbridled Elaine and Unrivalled Belle, but who is also one of the most sought after broodmare sires around, his daughters producing 155 stakes winners, nearly 80 graded, including such as Unique Bella, Carpe Diem, Tourist, Magnum Moon and Moonshine Memories.
My Miss Sophia is half-sister to Materiality, who went undefeated in his first three starts, including a victory in the Florida Derby (G1), which he captured while running a 110 Beyer Speedfigure. and to the young stakes p. Wildwood Flower, the dam of My Miss Sophia and Materiality, is a stakes winning and multiple graded stakes placed performer, who is also dam of a two-year-old filly by Galileo, a yearling filly by Galileo that realized 900,000 gns. at the 2018 Tattersalls October Yearling Sales, and a colt foal by Galileo.
Wildwood Flower is herself half-sister to Eye of the Tiger, successful in the Washington Park Handicap (G2) and Affirmed Handicap (G2), and to stakes placed Expanse, dam of the Travers Stakes (G1) hero Afleet Express; Embellish The Lace, successful in the Alabama Stakes (G1); and of Reporting For Duty, a stakes winner of almost $470,000.
My Miss Sopia’s granddam, Dial A Trick, is out of Ice Fantasy, winner of the Churchill Downs Debutante Stakes, and also dam of multiple graded stakes winner Fighting Fantasy; granddam of grade one winner Snow Ridge and graded stakes winner Sweetnorthernsaint; and third dam of Quiet Kim, runner-up in the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I) and herself dam of multiple graded stakes winning and grade one placed Fiftyshadesofhay.
My Miss Sophia is dam of a 2018 filly by War Front, and is back in foal to that stallion. A Danzig son who is now firmly established among the leading sires in the world today, War Front is sire of nearly 80 stakes winners, among them grade one winners in at least six different countries. They include the Champions Declaration of War, Brave Anna, and U S Navy Flag, as well as group and grade one winners Roly Poly, The Factor, Avenge, Jack Milton, Hit It a Bomb, War Command, Summer Soiree, American Patriot, War Flower, Peace and War, Fog of War, Homesman and Lancaster Bomber. In 2018 alone he is responsible for 19 individual stakes winners, nine group or graded, and four grade one.
We can note that there are already four stakes winners and six stakes horses by War Front out of Unbridled’s Song mares, including graded stakes winners War Dispatch and Intelligence Cross, and Dogtag, a stakes winner at Saratoga at two in 2018.
