BODACIOUS BABE: HIP 24 KEENOV
Wed, 10/24/2018 - 20:50
A graded stakes performer by an important broodmare sire, Bodacious Babe is half-sister to a current two-year-old grade one winner who is a leading contender for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She is offered carrying her first foal who will be a member of the first crop of twice World Champion Arrogate.
An accomplished runner, the speedy Bodacious Babe won three times, from 5½ to 7 furlongs, scoring by daylight on each occasion, including a 3¼ length victory over graded stakes winner Mo’ Green at Gulfstream Park. In black-type company, Bodacious Babe also took second in the Sugar Swirl Stakes (G3), defeating graded stakes winner Dearest, stakes winners Miss Hollywood, More Than a Party and Pretty Perfection, and third in the Dashing Beauty Stakes.
Bodacious Babe is a daughter of Mineshaft. The only Horse of the Year by A.P. Indy, Mineshaft is sire of such as grade one winners Effinex, It’s Tricky, Dialed In, Discreetly Mine, Weep No More and Bond Holder. Mineshaft is now becoming an important broodmare sire. His daughters have produced 27 stakes winners, among them the Kentucky Oaks (G1) heroine, Cathryn Sophia; the sensational undefeated graded stakes winner Catalina Cruiser; and other graded winners Enticed, Coal Front, Azar, Leave The Light On, My Boy Jack, Mico Margarita, Eagle, Miss Mo Mentum, Noble Beauty, Lookin For Eight and Once on Whiskey.
Bodacious Babe is half-sister to Sippican Harbor, who followed up an astonishing 17 lengths Saratoga maiden special weight triumph with a two lengths win over the subsequent Alcibiades Stakes (G1) scorer, Restless Rider, in the Spinaway Stakes (G1). Sippican Harbor now looms a major contender for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). We should also note here that while Bodacious Babe is by Mineshaft, Sippican Harbor is by Orb, a horse whose sire, Malibu Moon, is bred on an identical cross to Mineshaft.
Blossomed, the dam of Bodacious Babe and Sippican Harbor, has young daughters of Pulpit and Street Sense ahead of Bodacious Babe, and she is also dam of a yearling colt by Bodemiester, a Malibu Moon weanling colt – a three-quarters-brother to Sippican Harbor – and is bred to Honor Code, another son of A.P. Indy.
Blossomed is three-quarters brother to Flick, a stakes winner who is also dam of graded stakes winning Greengrassofyoming, and to Cinemine, an eight-time stakes winner, whose successes include the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G3). Texas Cinema, the granddam of Bodacious Babe, is half-sister to the English group one winning juvenile Peter Davis, and is out of French Flick, herself a stakes winner, and a daughter of stakes winner Tres Jolie. Through Tres Jolie’s dam, Champion Two-Year-Old Filly, Leallah, the family descends from the great tap-root mare, Lea Lark, also ancestress of such as Breeders’ Cup winners Champagne Room, Secret Circle and Singletary; current Breeders’ Cup hopeful Blue Prize; Dubai World Cup (G1) victor Almutawakel; and the undefeated grade one winner Mastery.
Bodacious Babe is offered carrying her first foal which will also be from the first crop of Arrogate, a phenomenal runner who compiled an astonishing sequence of victories in the Travers Stakes (G1), Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) and Dubai World Cup (G1). This cross gives elements also found in the pedigree of grade one winning millionaire, Belle Gallantey, whose dam is an A.P. Indy/Deputy Minister cross, like Bodacious Babe, and who is out of a sister to the granddam of Arrogate.
