Three-time graded winner Unified became one of the premier sprinters in the nation in 2017. He was tabbed a ‘TDN Rising Star’ in his successful debut, earning a 99 Beyer—the highest of his generation. The son of Candy Ride (Arg) went on to win his next two starts, including the G2 Peter Pan S. in 1:47 flat—one of the fastest times since the 1980s. His graded stakes victories include the G2 Bay Shore S., the aforementioned Peter Pan S. and the G3 Gulfstream Park Sprint S., where he posted a career high 101 Beyer and defeated multiple G1 winner Mind Your Biscuits. He was also a close runner-up in the G1 Carter Handicap, finishing only a neck behind the winner.
Unified is a son of leading general sire and preeminent Lane’s End stallion Candy Ride (Arg). He is out of a stakes-placed Dixie Union mare, and his second dam, City Sister, is graded stakes-placed and the dam of the graded winner Dixie City. This is the same family as Champion Grade 1 winner Dehere.
Unified does not have Storm Cat in his pedigree, so using Storm Cat-line mares to recreate Candy Ride’s success is a clear tactic for Unified’s stud career. Candy Ride has been exceptionally successful with mares who carry a cross of Seattle Slew, siring 13 stakes winners, including Grade 1 winners Twirling Candy and Mastery, as well as Unified himself, whose broodmare sire Dixie Union is out of a mare by Seattle Slew’s Champion son Capote. This success suggests inbreeding Unified to Seattle Slew, a pedigree pattern that has already resulted in over 150 stakes winners worldwide.
Unified's first stakes winner, Behave Virginia, won the Debutante Stakes earning an 83 Beyer. His third black-type winner, Unified Report, recently secured his second stakes win to remain undeafeated. Roger McQueen, became his sire's second stakes winner earlier this year after his victory in the Runhappy Ellis Park Juvenile Stakes. Unified recently had a debut MSW winner Mytown Myrules, who won by an impressive 16 1/2 lengths.
“Unified is a prospect with the impressive physique of a two-turn horse with the speed of a flat-out sprinter, and we think breeders are going to absolutely love him when they get a look at him.” - Don Little Jr.
