Lane’s End freshman sire Mr Speaker has hit the ground running with his first crop of two-year-old runners. The Grade 1 winning son of Pulpit already has two winners from just seven starters so far this year, good for a 28% winning percentage.

Elegancia gave Mr Speaker his first winner when romping in her career debut by six lengths in a five-furlong sprint over the dirt at Camarero on May 12. You Should Talk, who was third at first asking and runner-up second out, broke through with an impressive 7 1/2-length score over the Lone Star Park dirt on June 29. Mr. Speaker has already amassed nearly $50,000 in winnings, earning him a spot on the Top 25 Leading First-Crop sire list.

Mr Speaker was one of the preeminent turf routers in the country during his career, which included a victory in the G1 Belmont Derby over 1 1/4 miles on the grass. His two winners so far have scored in dirt sprints by a combined 13 1/2 lengths, proving the versatility of Mr Speaker’s pedigree. With the juvenile turf race season about to start, there are sure to be more winners for Mr Speaker soon.
